Early versions of ProKon were capable of performing ²Û Û² this, and only this, function. As the program has evolved, many ²Û Û² things have been added so that the current version is capable of ²Û Û² doing much, much more. Following is a complete description ProKon ²Û Û² and what ProKon is capable of doing for you. ProKon is intended ²Û Û² for use with Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows NT, ²Û Û² Windows 2000, and Windows XP. ProKon cannot be used with Windows ²Û Û² 3.11 or earlier versions. There is a 16-bit version of ProKon ²Û Û² available (called SICon) that is capable of this. ²Û Û² ²Û Û² The primary use for ProKon is to convert numerical data to/from ²Û Û² various units of measurement. While focusing on conversions ²Û Û² between the metric and Imperial (English) systems of measurement, ²Û Û² it is capable of performing conversions between many other units, ²Û Û² foreign, ancient, and archaic. ProKon's capabilities have grown to ²Û Û² the point that it is capable of performing well over 400,000 ²Û Û² different unique conversions. You would have a difficult time ²Û Û² finding a measurement unit that is not already included in ProKon. ²Û Û² Even if you could, ProKon has the capability of storing any ²Û Û² special conversion units that you might come up with in a special ²Û Û² "Custom" conversion class. ²Û Û² ²Û Û² The conversions in ProKon are grouped into various "Classes". Each ²Û Û² class contains units that would logically fit in the Class ²Û Û² description. Examples of classes are Mass, Length, Viscosity, ²Û Û² Density, Concentration, Light, Temperature, Area, etc. In all, ²Û Û² there are 26 Classes to select from. Each of the units contained ²Û Û² in any Class can be converted to any of the other compatible units ²Û Û² in the Class. Selection of a pair of units for conversion presents ²Û Û² a calculation window in which calculations can be performed. ²Û Û² Calculations are performed 'dynamically', meaning that as values ²Û Û² are entered under one unit, the converted value is updated ²Û Û² instantaneously to the other unit. Either conversion value may be ²Û Û² edited to dynamically display results - useful for 'what if' ²Û Û² calculations. All data shown can be printed, or copied to Windows ²Û Û² clipboard and file. ²Û Û² ²Û Û² ProKon also contains a Periodic Table of the Elements. Selecting ²Û Û² the Periodic Table class shows the complete periodic table of the ²Û Û² elements. Any element may be selected to bring up a window showing ²Û Û² pertinent data on that element. Such things as atomic number, ²Û Û² atomic weight, density, oxidation states, melting point, boiling ²Û Û² point are shown along with descriptive text on the element giving ²Û Û² reactivity, uses, sources, prevalence, toxicity, etc. All data ²Û Û² shown can be printed, or copied to Windows clipboard and file. ²Û Û² ²Û Û² A Class titled 'Material Density' gives density of over 600 common ²Û Û² materials. Approximate density is given in both metric and ²Û Û² Imperial (English) units. Densities are available for materials ²Û Û² from acetylene to flint to mahogany to zirconium. Again, all data ²Û Û² shown can be printed, or copied to Windows clipboard and file. ²Û Û² ²Û Û² A 'Geometry' Class gives a folder of common geometric formulae. ²Û Û² Each page of the folder shows a keyed graphic of a geometric ²Û Û² figure along with various formulae that can be used to perform ²Û Û² calculations pertinent to that figure. Very useful for finding ²Û Û² that formula that you learned in school but 'forgot'. ²Û Û² ²Û Û² A 'Constants' Class contains a folder of various types of ²Û Û² numerical constants used in the scientific and academic ²Û Û² communities. These lists are a valuable reference tool for ²Û Û² constants used in chemistry, physics, mathematics, etc. ²Û Û² ²Û Û² Also available from within ProKon is a pop-up combination ²Û Û² scientific/financial calculator with a scrolling tape. The ProKon ²Û Û² calculator is capable of performing all of the standard math ²Û Û² operations +, -, X, /, as well as such things as logarithms, ²Û Û² natural logs, trigonometric functions, hyperbolic functions, ²Û Û² powers, roots, factorials, combinations, permutations, ²Û Û² reciprocals, percentages, etc. Financial calculations such as ²Û Û² present value, future value, loan calculations, profit/loss, ²Û Û² interest, currency conversions, dividend, and investments can be ²Û Û² performed. A 10-location, non-volatile memory that is saved ²Û Û² between sessions in included. Although very intuitive and easy to ²Û Û² use, integrated help is available for all calculator functions. ²Û Û² All or a portion of the calculator tape can be printed or sent to ²Û Û² clipboard or file. The ProKon calculator features 15-digit ²Û Û² accuracy with no rounding errors. ²Û Û² ²Û Û² The 'Miscellaneous' Classes actually offers 62 additional modules, ²Û Û² some of which give access to databases of information on various ²Û Û² topics. Others allow calculation of various types of data that are ²Û Û² not true 'conversions' but that are, nevertheless, quite useful. ²Û Û² Modules available are: a module for inorganic chemicals that gives ²Û Û² data such as formula weight, density, physical form, melting ²Û Û² point, boiling point, etc. on a very large number of inorganic ²Û Û² chemicals, a nutritional database that gives nutritional data on a ²Û Û² large number of food items, for instance, calories, fat content, ²Û Û² carbohydrate content, etc. A 'Standard Sieve' module gives ²Û Û² information such as sieve opening size, standard sieve number, ²Û Û² wire size, etc. on the standard sieve series and a 'Wire/Sheet ²Û Û² Gauge' module gives wire diameter and sheet thickness in both ²Û Û² metric and Imperial units. A 'Number Base Conversion' module ²Û Û² allows conversion of decimal, binary, octal, or hexadecimal values ²Û Û² between the various systems and an 'Electrical Calculation' module ²Û Û² allows calculation of various electrical properties such as ohms, ²Û Û² volts, watts, energy cost, and electric motor properties. A ²Û Û² 'Meteorological' module allows calculation of numerous 'weather' ²Û Û² related values such as relative humidity, dew point, wind chill ²Û Û² index, etc. Recent additions to Miscellaneous for contractor or ²Û Û² engineering type work include a Concrete module that allows ²Û Û² calculation of various information needed by contractors and those ²Û Û² involved in calculating quantities of concrete required for ²Û Û² concrete pours, a Lumber module allowing calculation of data ²Û Û² related to board feet requirements, a Paint module which ²Û Û² calculates paint requirements and theoretical paint coverage, a ²Û Û² Twist Drill Size module giving a database of info, and a Gauge ²Û Û² module giving thickness and diameter requirements of various ²Û Û² systems of wire and sheet gauge. A graphical and interactive ²Û Û² Resistor/Capacitor module allows calculation of resistance or ²Û Û² capacitance values through a point-and-click interface. Other ²Û Û² modules include an Irrigation module which allows calculation of ²Û Û² irrigation requirements such as time to irrigate, amount of ²Û Û² irrigation water required, area or quantity of water required, a ²Û Û² Roman Numerals module which allows calculation of Roman numerals ²Û Û² from decimal value and which allows simple math performed on Roman ²Û Û² numerals, a Fractions module allowing conversion to and from ²Û Û² fractions and decimals, and a Formula Weight calculator module ²Û Û² which allows calculation of chemical formula weight by simply ²Û Û² entering a chemical formula. To go on, there's a Sound module, an ²Û Û² architectural symbol database, and a module that allows currency ²Û Û² conversions to and from approximately 220 currencies from around ²Û Û² the world. The currency rate conversion module allows for instant ²Û Û² updates of the currency conversion factors database from the ²Û Û² internet. These rate factors are current within a day and come to ²Û Û² you compliments of ShowMe Software. To round out the Miscellaneous ²Û Û² class is a module that allows calculation of various 'solution' ²Û Û² parameters such as the amount of material required to dissolve in ²Û Û² an existing solution to obtain a solution of a given strength or ²Û Û² the amount of water to add to a solution of given strength to ²Û Û² reduce its strength. Look below for a comprehensive list of the ²Û Û² various modules available. ²Û Û² ²Û Û² With the latest version, the Miscellaneous Class has been split ²Û Û² into Miscellaneous I and Miscellaneous II. In addition, several ²Û Û² new modules have been added. These include a Paper module that ²Û Û² allows the calculation of various paper measures. Also added are a ²Û Û² Metal Hardness, a Mixed Density, A Numbers by Name, a Metric ²Û Û² Prefix module, Traffic Marking calculation, and a water vapor ²Û Û² permeability module. ²Û Û² ²Û Û² Also in the latest version are two new menu items called Find and ²Û Û² GoTo. Both of these menu items can be found in the main menu item ²Û Û² titled Locate. The Find menu shows a list containing all of the ²Û Û² units contained in ProKon that are located in the various unit ²Û Û² conversion modules. The list of units is searchable to make it ²Û Û² easy to locate a unit in the list. This list of units is useful if ²Û Û² you're not sure which module a specific unit might be located in. ²Û Û² Selecting a unit from the Find list will take you directly to the ²Û Û² module containing that unit. The GoTo menu item shows a list of ²Û Û² all of the modules contained in ProKon.
